I wrote a LONG rambling memoir of our trips across South/North Park on 24 and our choices to go north on 24 through Buena Vista and Leadville and over to Aspen or up to I-70 and west to Grand Junctioon or south to Gunnison, the Black Canyon and Montrose and then south again through Ouray and down the "million dollar highway" to Durango and west again to the four corners and Utah. I think you were heading to Grand Junction, where Kaci lived for two years as Director of the Planned Parenthood office there (quit e an exciting, scary challenge).
If you are going that way on your outbound leg, I hope you'll be able to return the other way, tracing in reverse the route that Mom and I took after your wedding (ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO!!) out to San Diego for a conference. It was magical for us, and we hope it has some of that quality for you.
The light green bowl Tommy is pointing to is the "real" South Park... a huge expanse of mostly uninhabitable land.
